At long last here is the picture of Gavin's Hammerhead he caught in Cabo aboard the Wildcatter. She's a beauty and Max thinks his daddy is a hero. Funny story: while in Cabo (and, coincidently, while the boys were fishing) I bought Max a shark tooth necklace from one of the local vendors. Max wore his necklace to school on Monday and told us that "everyone thought my shark tooth necklace was AWESOME and they couldn't believe Daddy caught a shark - they wanted to sit by me at school and touch the necklace." Then, he told us that his friend Maddie at school showed him where the "gums" were on the shark tooth. Finally, he pulled out a beautiful picture he had illustrated and colored at St. John's, with the caption, "I love my Dad because he cot a shark" (see above). As you can see, Gavin is pictured proudly holding up a bloody tooth that he extracted from the dead hammerhead shark at his feet. Yes, Max has been telling all of his buddies that the shark tooth he now wears daily around his neck was pulled by his daddy from the mouth of the hammerhead shown in his drawing (actual picture below). No wonder everyone wants to sit by Max at school! We have not corrected him, as at this point it would be confusing and heartbreaking (and Gavin kind of enjoys being a local hero). Love that little guy!
